Adel was born and raised in the Bronx. He received
his B.A. in English with a minor in Education from Pace University and M.A. from the City University of New York at Lehman
College. He is currently teaching high school in a Special Act School District in Westchester, New York. While teaching
English, Adel continues to hone his skills in writing and acting by participating in workshops across the city. After working
on several Ivy League student films, Adel realized that he and his family of creative artists could make films, too. It
didn’t take much convincing for Julio Antonio Toro and Frankie Villanueva to combine forces and form HollyHood Productions
in June of 2003.
Several months passed and
Adel became a member of SAG. However, he was still hungry to bring more professional talents into the HollyHood fold, so
Adel joined the New York chapter of NALIP and immediately began working with the President, Edwin Pagan on several projects.
It wasn’t long before Edwin offered his gifts as a cinematographer, to their first movie project, THE RECKONING, which
Adel produced and co-wrote. In addition to his behind-the-scenes responsibilities, Adel also acted in a principal role on
the project.
The second project he produced, REPENTANCE, was shot in the summer of 2007, just
as the Archdiocese of Los Angeles was settling a case with victims of pedophile priests, which is the topic of the short
film. It has generated a buzz among the Latin filmmaking community as it was accepted into eight film festivals across the
country.
In February of 2008, Adel became the President
of NALIP NY and accepted the challenge of bringing the New York urban Latino filmmaker to the attention of mainstream America,
or at least corporate New York. He and his Board were responsible for bringing educational programs and workshops to artists
that will help them move upward in the struggle to be recognized and have their Latino stories told by Latinos.
Adel
wrote, directed, produced, and starred in TROUBLE CHILD, HollyHood's latest short film, which will screen at the East Harlem
International Film Festival from June 1st-5th. He is currently putting the finishing post-production touches on another short
film, PROMISES, PROMISES. He wrote, directed, produced, and starred in this film while he is rewriting a final draft of THE
CONGREGANT, a feature film that HollyHood hopes to start raising money for by early 2012. Finally, Adel can be seen in theaters
starting August 5th, opposite Easai Morales, Judy Reyes, & newcomer Harmony Santana in the critically acclaimed feature
film GUN HILL ROAD by the hottest new director in NYC, Rashaad Ernesto Green.
