Julio
was born, raised, and continues to live in the borough of the Bronx. Combining the elements of writing and drawing since
his early school years, Julio slowly became obsessed with the art of storytelling. He attended the School of Visual Arts
as a student in the Illustration/Cartooning program, and it is there that he honed his knack for visualization and compositional
design.
After
receiving several freelance jobs in comics as well as storyboarding, Julio decided to mesh his talents for drawing and writing
as a precursor to filmmaking. Having read scores of books and materials in regards to motion pictures, Julio completed his
first feature length screenplay, "The Phenom" in 2007. He is a recipient of the 2007 Bronx Council of
the Arts BRIO (Bronx Recognizes It's Own) Award in screenwriting. He co-founded the movie production company, HollyHood
Productions, along with his partners and producers, Adel L. Morales and Frankie Villanueva.
Julio is a member of NALIP (National Association
of Latino Independent Producers) - NY, the New York chapter of the national filmmaking organization. In 2007, he co-wrote,
directed, and edited, "The Reckoning," which won the Best Suspense Short Film Award at the Long
Island Latino International Film Festival (LILIFF). The following year, he also wrote, directed, and edited HollyHood's
second short film, "Repentance," for which he recieved the Best Short Film Director Award at
LILIFF. Julio also co-directed HollyHood's most recent short film, "Trouble Child."
